Are you developing products incorporating nanoparticles, but getting stuck in the process? Then you can count on Solids Solutions to provide you with advice. In our laboratory in Delft we perform daily research on nanoparticles and powder particles. The properties of these particles are important in order to process them correctly in products. Solids Solutions has various techniques and research instruments to accurately map particle properties. We can help you find the right nanoparticles for your specific product. Sedimentation nanoparticlesOne method we use at Solids Solutions to calculate the size of nanoparticles is sedimentation. In differential centrifugal sedimentation nanoparticlesare added to a liquid so that the sedimentation rate can be determined. The rate at which the particles sink depends on their weight and density. Larger particles will sink faster. Thus, based on the sedimentation rate, the size of the particles can be calculated. Stokes’ Law is used for this purpose. Dynamic light scatteringTo calculate the size of powder particles, we use dynamic light scattering nanoparticles. In this method, the powder is scattered in a certain medium, after which it is illuminated by a laser beam. In this way, a scattering pattern can be observed. This pattern depends on the interaction between the particles and the light. This is caused by the size, shape and surface roughness of the particles. Based on the scattering pattern, information is obtained about the size of the particles and the particle size distribution.
